Period of Abstract
From thinking direction that had become more individualistic, along with the passing of Thai modern art pillar, Silpa Bhirasri, in 1962, abstract work began to gain its popularity. “Group” by Chamruang Vichienket was first constructed as human figure then slowly lessen its form to pure abstract. “Group” won a Gold Medal Award from the 16th National Exhibition of Art in 1965. This was a page turner in the new history of abstract work creation that become popular and flourishes until today. Besides the new direction, the use of different materials also varied from stone to wood. During 1967 -1976 (B.E. 2510-2519), the period is counted as the golden era of abstract sculpture with significant semi-abstract or abstract sculptors like Chalood Nimsamor, Nonthivathn Chandanaphalin, Vichai Sitthiratn, Khemarat Kongsook, Cheewa Komolmalai and Inson Wongsam.
